Raiders discuss impact of much-needed bye week

The enjoyed a much-needed bye week in Week 10 of the NFL.

After their fifth consecutive defeat with a 41:24 defeat at The Raiders were given an extended break to think about what exactly went wrong and how they could fix it.

Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce said Wednesday that the break was much needed for Las Vegas.

“Good good. Needed it, man. I needed to take a good cold shower, take a cold bath and wash off all the bad that happened in the nine games. And I think our staff did the same thing.

“I know our players did that, but they were still close to the building, which is the best part, right? People might question our locker room, maybe they question our culture, maybe they question me, but you can't question our commitment. That's why we're committed to this bad boy and turning him around. When they got here on Tuesday, that's exactly how I felt. That’s what they felt from me, and hopefully you feel it now,” Pierce said.

Pierce and the Raiders wasted no time looking for possible solutions when the bye week came.

Immediately after the Raiders' loss at the Bengals, Pierce Offensive coordinator Luke Getsy, quarterbacks coach Rich Scangarello and offensive line coach James Cregg.

Las Vegas named Scott Turner interim offensive coordinator and made Joe Philbin its interim offensive line coach. Turner served as passing game coordinator and Philbin served as senior offensive assistant.

The Raiders also brought in Scott's father and former Raiders head coach Norv Turner as a senior advisor.

Pierce hopes quick action will help with game planning for the Raiders' trip this week .

“Huge. I wanted to get it over with. As soon as I made the decision that we were going to move forward, I hire these two gentlemen, do whatever paperwork we need to do from an HR perspective, and bring them into the building and start “We started work during our bye week to give ourselves 10 days to prepare for the Dolphins,” Pierce said.

Pierce also announced Wednesday that Gardner Minshew will remain the Raiders' starting quarterback for their date in Miami.

Kickoff is set for 10 a.m. PT on Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, where the Raiders can show how much or how little the bye week and personnel changes have done to fix their problems so far this season.
