49ers injury updates aren’t great news for QB and ailing superstar DE

The San Francisco 49ers are dealing with a handful of injuries following their disastrous loss to the Seattle Seahawks in Week 11.

Two of those injuries affect key 49ers starters as their margin of error in the race for the postseason has shrunk to almost zero.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters on a conference call Monday that defensive end Nick Bosa is dealing with hip and oblique injuries. The team will evaluate Bosa throughout the week, and Shanahan said it's possible Bosa could be fit for Sunday's game against the Packers in Green Bay.

quarterback Brock Purdy also appeared in Shanahan's Monday update after not being there immediately after Sunday's game. Shanahan said Purdy suffers daily from pain in his right shoulder. This is the second time Purdy has been struck during a game this season and was considered fit for action during the week. He also injured his back against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 3, but participated fully in practice in Week 4.

It's worth keeping a close eye on the status of Purdy and Bosa in the practice reports starting Wednesday.

Shanahan also said that rookie wide receiver and punt returner Jacob Cowing is in the concussion protocol after suffering a blow to the head during a punt return. If he can't meet protocol, the team can turn to second-year WR Ronnie Bell or rookie WR Ricky Pearsall to take those punt return snaps.

Rookie linebacker Tatum Bethune was also injured early in the game due to kick coverage. He's battling a sprained MCL, which Shanahan said will keep him out for a while.
